ALROSA finds giant 235ct diamond at Jubilee pipe

In September 2013, ALROSA recovered a 235.16 carat diamond at Factory 14 in its Aikhal Mining and Concentration Mill.

The diamond came from the depths of the Yubileynaya (Jubilee) Diamond Pipe. Its dimensions are 42 x 26 x 28mm. The crystal is transparent with a yellow hue, and there are small graphite-sulphide inclusions in its periphery. Experts estimate the diamond’s value at $1.5-2 million.

Thanks to the technological arrangements undertaken by ALROSA, the company managed to improve diamond safety and reduce the number of affected gems. The integrity of this particular diamond is a testimonial to the well-established workmanship of miners and dressers and a high level of technological equipment.
